Tasks

Implement an effective system for the assessment of children’s progress and development, and evaluation of activities, identifying individual needs and ensure planning reflects this

Ensure staff make and record observations of each child regularly

1.       Establish keyworker roles. Identify children for each key worker

2.     Staff to carry out daily observations of children during sessions and record them on post it notes.

3.     Staff - as keyworkers - enter observations into their children’s development records in the relevant six areas of learning.

4.     Observation sheets to be filled in after children have left setting.

5.     Supervisor ensures each week that all observations have been updated

 

Ensure staff evaluate activities regularly

1.       Regular staff discussions to be held about observations, individual children and activities

2.     Keyworker staff to identify activities that their children are most engaged with

 

Ensure that children’s individual observations and their development are reflected in further planning

1.       Use individual children’s developmental records

2.     Keyworker discussion with Supervisor

 

Develop on-going programme to ensure all staff are familiar with assessment and record keeping systems and appreciate the impact on the children’s learning

1.       Assessment and in-put from Sure Start, Early Years and Childcare Service Quality Advisor

2.     Staff to attend regular Foundation Stage Training.

3.     Staff to attend Foundation Network Meetings.

4.     In house training – using updated induction pack/staff handbook, staff meetings and supervisor
