Neighbourhood Watch Bulletin May 2010

Dear All,

During the last few weeks there has been a small increase in crime in this area.

Various items have been stolen from sheds, vehicles and gardens across the area and these include petrol/diesel, catalytic converters, power tools, gardening equipment, children’s bikes and even a barbeque and a roof rack. We are also seeing a rise in number plate thefts across the district.

There is currently a high value on scrap metal and we are receiving increasing reports of pick up trucks canvassing the area looking for scrap metal. While some of these vehicle occupants may be genuine there will be others that are less so. Please report any such visitors to your property to police and if you are able to provide us with vehicle registration numbers this would be very helpful.

Many crimes that occur in this area are because items have either been left insecure or on display. You can help to prevent yourself from becoming a victim of crime by adopting a few simple measures:

* Never leave valuable items on display in your vehicle
* Ensure your vehicle is always locked when unattended
* Consider installing a shed alarm – these are very cheap, easy to install and operate and they are a great deterrent
* Ensure all your outbuildings are locked and refrain from leaving your garage open as this advertises your belongings to theives
* If you hear suspicious noises in and around your property investigate these safely. If you do not feel comfortable going outside you can still investigate by looking out through windows. If you suspect something untoward you should contact police immediately
