Neighbourhood Watch Bulletin – 3rd February 2010

We are receiving reports that residents in this area are once again receiving phone calls from a company posing as Sussex Police, or working in conjunction with Sussex Police. This company is offering residents discounted burglar alarms and in some instances, residents are being told that they are one of 4 lucky winners.

Sussex Police have not endorsed this company or its actions and our advice is to politely but firmly decline any offers from this company. If you are interested in updating the security at your home we would suggest that you contact local firms and get at least 2-3 estimates. It is also advisable to seek recommendations from friends and neighbours. You can also contact Sussex Police for advice and information on the latest Crime Prevention tips.

Please do not give out any personal information to these callers over the phone, and if you receive a visit to your home address, do not let these people into your home. Instead, you should contact police immediately.

Many local residents have been contacting police to complain about dangerous and anti-social driving. Operation Crackdown has been set up to tackle these problems and if you witness either dangerous or anti-social driving you can report it directly to Operation Crackdown by visiting www.operationcrackdown.org and completing their on-line form or by calling 01243 642 222.

Dangerous and anti-social driving includes tailgating, speeding, drink driving and driving whilst using a mobile phone. The message from Operation Crackdown is “Don’t tolerate it…report it!”

With the improved weather conditions we are seeing an increase in crime in this area, mainly thefts from outbuildings and motor vehicles. Some of these crimes are unavoidable by taking the following steps:
