Youth Club

The Club will re-commence meetings on September 8th and we hope that it will receive good local support.  Please contact Julia Beckett, the Youth Worker, on 01444 412576 for further information.

Playground

Our discussions with Mid Sussex District Council concerning an updated playground area have resulted in a grant of £40,000 being made available during their next financial year.  This is most welcome news.

The funds emanated from Section 106 monies made available by developers as a financial contribution to leisure provision, following new developments in the local area.

The Playground Work Group, headed by George Wiginton, which includes a number of co-opted village residents, are now working on the plans for the original scheme drawn up previously by the District Council.  Almost certainly some revisions will be recommended and we intend to make full details of the Parish Council proposals available for consultation in due course

Traffic Calming

Discussions are continuing on implementation of Phase 1 of the scheme in line with details advised in last month’s article.  At present we are liaising with SEEBOARD to ensure that lighting in the immediate area of the plan is adequate or whether any upgrading will be necessary.  Likewise we will display full details of the plan for consultation, prior to implementation.

Harassment

We are concerned at reports of poison pen letters circulating within the village, aimed at a particular resident.  The police are aware of the background and are actively pursuing enquiries.

Should you encounter anything of this nature please contact the Clerk, or Jim Cooke, our Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator (811404) in the strictest of confidence

Disruption to Electricity Supply

Copies of correspondence with SEEBOARD on this subject are displayed on the notice board.  If any resident wishes me to make further representation please contact me in writing clearly stating the points you wish to make.

Out of Order Street Lighting

All reports made to the Clerk of out of order street lights are reported to the appropriate authority as soon as possible, providing precise details of location and pole number reference are given.  However on some occasions it may be more appropriate for this information to be telephoned through direct on 01273 432386.

Home Composting

Mid Sussex District Council, in conjunction with several others, are making available home composting bins (plastic) at greatly reduced prices.  Details are available from the Clerk.  The well-known Gardening Expert, Alan Titmarsh, endorses home composting.

Illegal Chemical Dye found in Chilli Products in the UK

We have received a warning from the Principal Environmental Health Officer of MSDC that some food products sold in the UK have been found to contain chilli powder illegally contaminated with the dye Sudan 1, a chemical that could cause cancer.  A preliminary list of products, which have so far either tested positive for Sudan 1 or have been withdrawn from sale by the manufacturers on a precautionary basis, is available from the Clerk.

Public Participation

Our next meeting will be on 16th September and the agenda displayed prior to the meeting on the notice board.  Public participation at meetings is always welcome.
