NEWS FROM BALCOMBE PARISH COUNCIL AS SUPPLIED TO PARISH MAGAZINE FOR ISSUE OF AUGUST 2003

Youth Club

Following attendance at the July meeting by the present leader, Julia Beckett and Mr Stuart Kingsley, we now look forward to a successful new season of events after the summer break.  The Parish Council confirmed their willingness to support the Club as appropriate.

Playground

Members of the Work Group, led by Mr George Wiginton, were recently visited by Mr Ian Burton, Assistant Director of Mid Sussex District Council’s Outdoor Business Operations.  He was accompanied by Mr Rupert Browning, their Estates Maintenance Manager.  The meeting was most positive and as a result we are now putting together some proposals for consideration, details of which will be made available to interested parties in due course.

Traffic Calming

Following a further meeting with the Horsham based Local Traffic Officer, Mid Sussex, Mr John McKerrell, we have now received confirmation that they are happy for us to proceed with Phase 1 of our plan, namely the school area, which was identified in the recent survey as being the first priority area for action.  Only very minor revision to earlier proposals will be necessary.

The first part of the scheme will embrace the following measures:

1.    A mini roundabout, with raised dome, sited at the Haywards Heath/London Road junction.  Lighting adjacent to the roundabout will be installed.

2.    The north-east corner at this junction will be made sharper and the footpath extended out to the kerb

3.    A pedestrian refuge will be placed 20 yards north of the roundabout

Additionally speed cushions will be installed at three places on Haywards heath Road, between the Half Moon and the roundabout to slow approaching traffic, positioning to be finalised after consultation with the occupants of adjoining properties.

The lighting for the signs outside the school will be low maintenance solar powered and can be programmed to suit circumstances.  We would emphasise that the Crossing Attendant will not be affected in any way.

We will update you on future developments as and when they occur.

Finance

Completed accounts for the Financial Year ended March 2003 were presented to the July meeting.  Statutory details relating to availability for inspection and the audit process will be displayed on the notice board in due course.

Balcombe Web Sites

The Parish Council has agreed that Agendas for forthcoming meetings as well as Minutes of the previous month’s meeting will be made available to the two web sites and this is now being implemented.

Public Participation

A copy of the Agenda of forthcoming meetings is prominently displayed on the Parish Council Notice board and public participation is most welcome.  Dates for future monthly meetings of the Council will be as follows:

16 September, 21 October, 18 November, 16 December 2003 and 21 January, 17 February, 23 March & 27 April 2004
